Hello everyone! Today I’m writing to tell you about a project born from the heart and our deep passion for a game that has accompanied us through countless adventures: Dungeon World. For me, this isn’t just a role-playing game, but a true experience of sharing and collective creation that has made us dream, laugh, and live unforgettable stories.
Myself and Samantha Liparota, who worked with me on this endeavor, have experienced Dungeon World both as players and as game masters. This game has truly changed the way we see the RPG world. It has taught us the value of the stories we create together, and the emotions we share around a table or behind a screen.
It is precisely this richness that inspired us to give something back to the community that has given us so much. Thus, Dungeon World Italy was born: a project that represents our way of returning a bit of the magic we have experienced.
At first, we started by translating the homebrew character sheets for the EPICentrum project, getting more in touch with the community and discovering how much amazing material was already available, but often difficult to find or incomplete.
From that moment the desire to do more was born: to create a single, complete, and easily accessible resource hub to gather all the translated Dungeon World materials, from official resources to homebrew, and make them available to anyone who wants to venture into this fantastic world. This project is for the community, from two enthusiasts who, like you, love Dungeon World and believe in the power of shared stories.
🎯 Why Dungeon World Italy?
The birth of Dungeon World Italy was inspired by our love for this game and the desire to provide everyone with a complete and well-organized resource. We realized that, despite the great work already done by amazing projects like dungeonworld.it and EPICentrum, there was no unified access point to make all the material easily available and usable.
Our goal was simple: to create a portal with the complete translation of the Dungeon World manual and a collection of translated homebrew materials, as well as easy-to-consult and printable game resources.
🔍 Our Vision: Easy Access and Open Contribution
We believe every player deserves well-translated and accessible tools. Dungeon World Italy is a free resource available to everyone, designed to allow anyone to immerse themselves in the game without barriers. We wanted to integrate the best of the existing material and add new resources, organized in a practical and consistent way.
We didn’t stop there. We also created a GitHub repository where anyone can access the site’s source code and the materials we’ve developed. This repository is open to the community, so anyone who wants to contribute to the project can do so in a simple and direct way.
You can find the GitHub repository here: Dungeon World Italia - Github.
📚 What We’ve Done
🔹 Complete Translation of the Manual
The translation of the Dungeon World manual is at the heart of our project. Building upon the great work done by dungeonworld.it, we worked hard to integrate missing content, carefully completing the translation. 🚀 Not being professional translators, we focused on staying as close as possible to the original text while offering a smooth and faithful Italian version.
🔹 Translated Homebrew Materials
One of the most exciting aspects of Dungeon World is the community of creators who have developed homebrew content. We started translating many of these sheets to offer you new gameplay possibilities. Some materials, like those from EPICentrum.it, have not been fully adapted yet, but they are already available for use. The community can start using them and improve them together with us!
🔹 Adapted and Standardized Sheets
To make the sheets more practical, we adapted them to A4 format, ideal for printing. We also started working on standards for the creation and adaptation of sheets, offering future contributors and players uniform and easy-to-use tools.
🔧 Behind the Dungeon: How We Created Dungeon World Italy
Behind Dungeon World Italy, there’s been a lot of work, but our goal was clear: to create something useful for all of us, without complications. We aimed to make the process as simple as possible, so that anyone could participate and contribute.
🛠️ Materials: A Bit of Creativity with Adobe InDesign
All the game booklets and homebrew sheets were created using Adobe InDesign. We wanted the materials to be both beautiful and practical, ready to be printed and used easily. We paid attention to every detail with the idea of offering clear, easy-to-use tools for anyone, without complications.
🌐 The Website: Nextra and Next.js with Some Custom Tweaks
The website was built using Nextra on Next.js, a lightweight framework that allowed us to do things practically and quickly. To avoid making material updates complicated, we created some automation, so every time we upload or update new content, it’s automatically added to the site without having to do everything manually.
This way, contributors can focus on the content without worrying about how everything will be integrated into the website.
🛠 A Work in Progress: The Community at the Heart
Our project is always evolving, and your participation is essential! Dungeon World Italy is an open-source project, and anyone who wants to contribute with translations, adaptations, or new ideas is welcome. Through the GitHub repository, anyone can access the site’s source files and game materials, propose changes, report errors, or add content.
If you have ideas to improve the site, find errors, or simply want to contribute, we invite you to join us. Every contribution is important and will help make Dungeon World Italy an even more complete and useful resource for everyone.
🤝 Our Invitation to the Community
Samantha and I created Dungeon World Italy with the intent of giving something back to the Dungeon World community, a game that puts storytelling, collaboration, and creativity at its core. We want our site to be free and open to all, a reference point for every Italian player, whether you’re a newcomer or a veteran.
Visit Dungeon World Italy, explore the content, and if you want to lend a hand or report something, feel free to contact us or contribute on GitHub. We hope that our work can help you experience your adventures and create memorable stories in the fantastic world of Dungeon World!
